Snr Chief Liwonde Asks for More Boreholes

Senior Chief Liwonde Machinga district has called on government and its development partners to drill more boreholes in his area as those available are located far from the people.

He was speaking when Catholic Development Commission in Malawi (CADECOM) handed over 4 boreholes, an irrigation scheme and 3 disaster resilient houses to people of Mangamba community in Machinga.

The Chief was, however, optimistic that with the irrigation scheme people in his will be able to have food throughout the year.

Bishop for Mangochi Diocese, His Lordship Montfort Sitima, said they would have loved to construct more boreholes but had limited resources.

"You know people have to drink clean water which helps to prevent waterborne diseases," added Sitima.

According to His Lordship Sitima, the drilling of 4 boreholes is clear indication of the Catholic church's readiness in contributing to the well-being of the people.

Council Chairperson, Alexander Short, has since called on the people to safeguard the developments.

CADECOM with funding from TROCAIRE is implementing climate change programs in Senior Chief Liwonde's area.
