MDGS 3 Review a Mixed Bag- MEJN

A review on the Malawi Growth Development Strategy 3 indicates that 90 percent of its total budget is going towards recurrent expenditure than flagship projects.

The Malawi Economic Justice Network Executive Director Dr. Grace Kumchulesi said last evening in Lilongwe during dissemination of the funding that her institution has since recommended for a change in this for the successful implementation of the strategy.

“We would to love funds could have been channelled to big projects than expending more on salaries and other expenses,” noted Dr. Kumchulesi.

Dr. Kumchulesi says the indicators most of them not in the right direction will provide opportunity to various players in development on the way forward.

The National Planning Commission, an institution spearheading the national agenda, says the findings will provide direction on how the country should move forward on development.

Director General for the Commission Dr. Thomas Munthali says the findings have given them new ideas on development.

He said: “Us, the National Planning Commission, Civil Society Organization and various players, we need to work together, so that we have one voice in terms of development."

It is believed that the Health sector is performing positively as it is spending according to the given allocation.
