Women of Area 49 Seventh day Adventist Church in Lilongwe on Sunday gave orphaned children from the area an early festive party when they hosted them for lunch.

Leader of the Dorcas women, Chifundo Mtiyesanji, said they wanted to show the children motherly love that they miss most of the times.

“When a child loses a parent, they miss a certain kind of love among them. Going by our slogan, reach up with God, reach in with God, reach out with God, we decided to invite these children to offer them comfort,” she said.

Mtiyesanji said the women prepared meal for the children who came from within and outside the church.

“We have also given them clothes and soap among other items to help them in their day to day lives. We wanted to show them that even though they lost their parents, they have us as their parents. They should not feel lonely. They should know that God have them for a purpose,” Mtiyesanji said.

She then called on well-wishers to reach out and help vulnerable children in their areas as they lack a lot of basic needs.

One of the children, Bornface Mapira, was over the moon to have lunched with his fellow children.

“I am excited to be among friends. I feel recognized and I am grateful for everything I have been given here,” he said.

About forty children attended the luncheon.
