River Drowns Sozzled Teacher

The body of a teacher aged 26 was recovered from Linthipe River yesterday after he went missing for two days. It is believed he drowned.
Salima police publicist sub Inspector, Jacob Khembo, has identified the deceased as, Mayeso Mkandawire, a teacher at Katondo Primary School in Salima district. Police say the man was reported missing on Sunday 15th December. “He was swept downstream as he bathed in the river. He was drunk,” Khembo said. Khembo said “Teachers and the community around Mphinzi Trading Centre started looking for Mayeso but only managed to find his clothes at the river bank.” Postmortem results show that teacher died of suffocation. Police have since advised the general public to avoid bathing or crossing the rivers while drunk especially during rainy season to prevent such incidents from happening. Mkandawire was from Chipumi Village under Sub TA Kapondo in Mchinji district.
