Don’t Include Politics in Your Group - Chief Kawinga
Paramount Chief Kawinga of Machinga has called on Friends of Machinga, an organisation for those who come from the district, to avoid bringing politics into their grouping.
He was speaking during the organization’s Annual General Meeting in Liwonde.
"Most groups when being formed start out as groups that will help contribute to the development of country but along the way they lose track because they start bringing in politics," said Kawinga.
The Paramount Chief said the grouping is composed of people from different professional backgrounds who can help develop Machinga.
Board Chair of Friends of Machinga, Elizabeth Chilima Mleme, said their group which originated as Whatsapp group in 2016 is there to ensure Machinga develops in every sense from education, health, environment and others.
"As the theme says, Make Machinga Green, we want everything that was dead in the district to be alive again. For instance education, we want people in the district to at least attain basic education", said Mleme.
Mleme said going forward, they plan to establish a company as a way of sourcing income for the group's activities as currently they do not have a donor.
Guest of Honour at the function, Professor Richard Tambulasi, who is the Principal at Chancellor College urged the grouping to ensure that they achieve the causes they are championing as there are issues critical to the development of Machinga as a district.
