Salima Hospital Guardian Shelter Blown-Off

Salima Hospital Guardian Shelter Blown-Off

Heavy winds have blown-off a guardian shelter at Salima District Hospital, leaving the users desperate.

The accident happened at the weekend. There were no casualties.

According to Acting Director of Health Services for Salima, Dr. Yonasi Chise, the shelter accommodates at least three hundred guardians each day and all these now have nowhere to seek shelter.

“It is a very serious incident because this is the only building that is able to house guardians for our patients at the hospital. It is a serious because it is rainy season and again when it’s hot they need a shade," he said.

Dr. Chise said the hospital has now put up tents as a temporary shelter for the guardians.

Meanwhile Member of Parliament for Salima Central, where the district hospital is located, Gerard Kapiseni Phiri, says much as they will do something, there is need for well-wishers to help for the guardians to have a safe shelter.

“We are already struggling to help people with the hunger situation in the district. Now to hear that the guardian shelter has its roof blown off. It is very sad, we are doing all we can, but we need a hand from partners," said Kapiseni.

Dr. Chise is on record as having warned before that the facility needs maintenance.
