Floods Displace Families in Ntcheu

Scores of families have been displaced in Ntcheu District following flooding of Bwanje River on Thursday afternoon.

The floods have wrecked  havoc in Bwanje and Phanga villages. Both villages are under Traditional Authority's (T/A's) Masasa and Ganya

Ntcheu Bwanje North lawmaker, Nancy Chaola Mdooko has told Zodiak Online that there is need for an urgent assistance to the affected families inform of food and shelter.

"Currently, the affected families are seeking shelter at Mchochoma and Dimba primary schools in the area," said Mdooko.

Ntcheu District Commissioner, Smart Gwedemula said an assessment team has already been deployed to the area to assess extent of damage caused by the floods.

Ntcheu district has been experiencing heavy downpour since Sunday afternoon.

Earlier, the Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services also warned that the country will receive heavy rains with likelihood of floods in central region and lakeshore districts
