Embangweni Mission Hospital in Mzimba, will now wear a new face following renovations which are underway to reduce some of the challenges faced by the facility owned by the CCAP Synod of Livingstonia health department.

At the moment, the hospital is overwhelmed with clients such that space has become a big challenge.

The situation has become so dire that some patients have to sleep on the bare floor, according to some guardians.

One patient guardian, Beauty Phiri, says on-going renovations at the hospital have come at the right time.

"I am admitted here with a child and we are finding challenges of where to sleep to the extent that some sleep on the floor due to congestion hence we appreciate the renovations being undertaken now to at least solve the current challenges," said Phiri.

Embangweni Mission Hospital Director, Dr. Kondwani Zgambo, observed that most of the hospital's structures were put up in 1902 and were now in a dilapidated Form.

"You know the hospital is very old so we are carrying out projects to renovate the whole hospital and this going in phases.

"The first phase was to renovate the pharmacy area which got finished, the second one was to renovate the pediatric ward which we just finished and now we are probably at 98% then any day this January we will starting a K98 million project of renovating our theater,"said Dr. Zgambo.

Bills for the ongoing  renovations are being footed jointly by Wild Gees and the Malawi Mission work team based in the Netherlands.

Embangweni Mission Hospital serves a population of over 100, 000 and supports four health centers
