3 people have been killed since the blood sucker’s saga resurfaced in the North a few weeks ago.
Recently a man was burnt to death in Mzimba on allegations that he was a blood sucker, this further led to running battles between Police and community involved in the killing.
Property belonging to the victim and police houses were torched during the violent scenes.
Chitipa and Rumphi districts have also registered scenes of bordering on blood suckers myth.
Police in the north have arrested 27 people in connection to the killing of a man and damage of property of some people in Mzimba on bloodsucking allegations.
Confirming the arrest Kalaya says the increase in blood suckers myth has become a great concern as people are resorting to mob justice basing on allegations.
"Our concern is that from our investigations all those that have been killed, all those that have been injured, are innocent we have not found any evidence that they were blood suckers. However, we are still investigating all these cases that people are taking the law into their own hands, attacking, killing and maliciously damaging property of these innocent people," Kalaya lamented.
Kalaya said the arrested suspects have been remanded in various prisons across the region and will appear before the courts to answer various charges depending on the roles they played the time the crimes were commited.
He however cautioned people involved in mob justice following the continued rise in false claims of blood suckers saying they will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.
