CCJP coordinator Arnold Msimuko says lawlessness continues to rise in the country suggesting the need for involvement of traditional and political leaders to help bring back the justice and peace the country used to enjoy.

Speaking during an interface with various political parties, government and non- governmental organizations, Msimuko said the country is no longer a God fearing nation as violence and lawlessness continue to lead people in most parts of the country.

“Our intention was to provoke the traditional leaders and political leaders to begin to look at these issues with a more human heart because we have neglected action on these issues for quite some time,” Msimuko said.

Speaking after the interface, affiliates from Malawi Congress Party-MCP and United Democratic Front-UDF said the country’s current political state is what has contributed to most of the lawlessness.

UDF Northern regional secretary Goodson Phiri and MCP’S northern and southern regional campaign director Winfred Mphande said political leaders, churches and stakeholders must all take a stand in ensuring that Malawians are not abusing the rule of law.

"If there’s real peace, you must be a peaceful country, what is happening today, the riots, demos, destruction of property indicates we are no longer peaceful, as politicians we have a big role to play, we are part of the cause of this,” Said Mphande.

“Our Politics, have gone bizarre, it has divided us, Malawi used to be called a God fearing nation, but it’s no longer there, no oneness and no unity,” Phiri pointed out.

Deputy Mayor for Mzuzu City Council Gift Nyirenda has advised Malawians to avoid taking the law into their own hands by punishing alleged perpetrators but should rather seek assistance from duty bearers and let justice take its course.
