This is happening after realizing challenges facing communities in preparing and responding to disaster related shocks in the area of Traditional Authority Mwilang'ombe in the district.

The data team leader for the society, Gumbi Gumbi, told Zodiak online Monday that the exercise will go a long way in improving early warning systems.

“The drone flight will assist to encourage different stakeholders to bring their interventions after appreciating the images,” said Gumbi during the launch of the technology at Wovwe.

On his part, Nyungwe Area Civil Protection Committee Secretary, Stocker Nundwe, said the data generated will also help extension workers to provide accurate forecast on best farming practices.

“We strongly believe that from now we will be able to know our catchment areas and areas that are prone to natural disaster s,” said Nundwe.

Traditional Authority Kilipula whose area faces perennial flooding hailed Malawi Red Cross Society choosing his area as one of the beneficiaries for the exercise.

This is part of European Union Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid project funded by the EU.

A similar project will also take place in areas of Traditional authorities Kilipula and Mwakaboko, according to the Malawi Red Cross Society.
