The National Planning Commission says it will be engaging more with all stakeholders especially the citizenry and political parties to ensure that parties align their manifestos to the National Transformation 2063 vision.

The Commission’s Director General Dr. Thomas Munthali says the Commissions Act gives them mandate and power to be reporting progress to the president and parliament and that this engagement will help in the attainment of the vision of coming up with the Malawi everyone wants.

According to Munthali experience has shown that regime changes have greatly affected Malawi’s development plans which have been back and forth with each ruling party coming up with different priorities.

“To attain all the pillars and enablers that feed into the 2063 vision we will be asking political parties to share with us what they have in their manifesto, for us to see if their development plans are aligned with the national transformation vision, and once in power we will also be checking if what they outlined in the manifesto is being implemented and if they are on truck,” said Munthali.

He added Malawians will also be engaged to know if what the politicians are fulfilling their promises.

Munthali added that unlike the Vision 2020 which kept changing to suit the development agenda of the government of the day, the National Transformation 2063 has its home; the NPC keeping it on track.

Despite being hit by the effects of Covid19, Munthali said the commission is still making progress in conducting consultations using social media and other digital platforms so that the 2063 strategy is launched before the end of the year.

“We are right on track, we have been consulting the masses through social media and the contributions are very encouraging.” Said Munthali

So far, the commission says what is coming up with pillars such as mindset change, effective governance systems and public sector performance, human capital development just to mention a few, is the surest way to achieving Vision 2063.
