Former politician and writer Henry Chiwiriwiri Thindwa has urged Malawians to tell stories that reflect on the country’s history for the future generations’ sake.

Speaking to Zodiak during his “Memoirs” book launch Thindwa said there is need for Malawians to take a step in narrating the country’s history through publication of books and pamphlets as this is the only way to preserve the country’s history and culture.

Thindwa who was once active in politics during late Kamuzu Banda’s era, highlights that books are the surest way in which a country’s politics, social standing which includes culture among others can be preserved.

He notes that this generation has little or no knowledge at all of where the country is coming from.

“My children, grandchildren and great grandchildren will know where they came from and their future through this piece of literature. I challenge you that most of our young people these days do not know their history. Books should be an inspiration,” says Thindwa.

The book was edited by Willie Zingani, another renowned writer.

Zingani has blamed the older generation for not passing on history to the younger generation.

“We are blaming the youth today of their ignorance on the country’s history, yet we have not told the stories. It would be a different case if they failed to read existing literature. This book is the beginning of something great,” says Zingani.

The book titled “Memoirs,” talks about the early life of Henry Chiwiriwiri Thindwa, his education, political career and roles of chiefs among others.
