The Youth and Society says unless government considers allocating adequate resources to the youth sector efforts to champion youth programs will remain a dream.

YAS Executive Director Charles Kajoloweka told Zodiak online that Members of Parliament should reconsider their budgeting processes by focusing on key strategic ministries and departments in the allocation of resources.

"How can you expect a sector to deliver with a meagre 0.5 percent of the total national budget to implement its activities," queried Kajoloweka.

He then urged the youth sector to continue lobbying and engaging various players at both district and national levels for improved funding.

District Youth Officer for Karonga Lapken Liwago hailed the organization for its zeal in addressing a myriad of challenges facing young people in the country.

According to Liwago the district youth office gets around 4.7 per year as part of government subvention.

High unemployment rate and drug and substance abuse are some of the challenges being experienced by youth in Karonga.
