The Human Rights Defenders Coalition HRDC has introduced a whistle blowing initiative aimed at gathering reliable information on any issues of maladministration and plunder of public funds that occurred under the Democratic Progressive Party Government.

HRDC Chairperson Gift Trapence told Zodiak Online that they expect Malawians to fully make use of this platform to help fix the country.

Trapence highlighted that they are looking for any information that might prove acts of corruption, tax evasion, questionable government contracts, and arbitrary arrests among other.

He promises legal action to be taken if their investigations establish tangible cases.

"We have resources in Malawi that have been abused through corruption; we’ve had nepotism, so we would want to address these issues that the previous administration has been abusing, the issue of tax evasion. So, we would want to get information and with credible evidence we will have a team of lawyers and this information will help us to guide the government on how they can dress some of the issues," says Trapence.

Trapence further says HRDC plans to use this system on all government activities in the future to iron out the corruption scourge in Malawi.

Some quarters in the society have however faulted HRDC for targeting the DPP and not all past regimes, sentiments Trapence has quashed saying they are starting with DPP since it’s an immediate past government.

When reached for comment, Spokesperson for Democratic Progressive Party Nicholas Dausi, asked for more time before commenting alleging he was not aware of the development.
