The C.C.A.P Synod of Livingstonia’s Development Department (SOLDEV) has challenged farmers in the country to embrace conservation agriculture to maximize crop production on a small piece of land in light of harsh climatic shocks.

SOLDEV Executive Director Kenneth Sakala observed that embracing climate smart agriculture has proved to be effective in reducing food insecurity at both household and national levels.

"We are urging farmers in the country to prioritize conservation agriculture as it helps to improve soil fertility and moisture content especially in face of weather related shocks," said Sakala.

On his part, Board Member for the organization Victor Kawaghe said as a church it has a huge task of encouraging its flock not only to focus on the spiritual aspect but also the physical aspect.

"As a development arm of the church, we are determined to cushion the lives of smallholder farmers by providing them with farm inputs with a view of increasing crop yields," said Kawaghe.

SOLDEV has since donated farming inputs such as wheelbarrows, shovels, panga knives and sprayers among others pegged at 3.3 million kwacha.

The C.C.A.P Synod of Livingstonia under its Development Department is implementing a 3 year project in Karonga dubbed Mpata Drought Mitigation Project.
