CSAT for "Wear Red Mask" Campain for Govt to Swiftly Handle Cases Involving Plunder of Public Resources

The Center for Social Accountability and Transparency will from next week launch a "Wear Red Mask Campaign" to ensure speedy prosecution of all cases related to plunder of public funds during the previous Democratic Progressive Party led government.

Executive Director for CSAT Willy Kambwandira told Zodiak Online that their  campaign follows revelations by the state President Lazarus Chakwera that K1.3 trillion was looted by the previous government

The center is also calling on President Chakwera to order a forensic audit in all government ministries, departments and agencies so that Malawians have a clear picture of how much tax payer’s money was looted.

"It is our belief that all cases related to plunder of public funds, improper allocation of land and other forms of abuse will be concluded within the reasonable time," says Kambwandira.

Kambwandira says it has given handlers of cases related to plunder of public resources up to December to conclude the cases.

CSAT also wants the Ministry of Lands and other relevant agencies to institute an audit to determine how much land was sold dubiously establish the beneficiaries.

In this vein CSAT has called on Malawians to start putting on red masks to force government agencies to act swiftly on all impending issues whether fraud, mismanagement of public resources or other forms of abuse.

" If by December there will still be a backlog of cases related to the plunder of resources then we will have no choice but to call for a "Wear black mask" to show our dissatisfaction with government and institutions handling the cases," highlighted Kambwandira.
