Speaking during the handover of such essentials which included soap, masks, buckets and personal protective equipment to some CBCCCs WACRAD program manager Harvey Munthali said the equipment is meant to cushion communities in the face of the raging pandemic

 

"Malawi has not been spared from the global pandemic hence we decided to support some learning institutions in our catchment area of Edingeni with equipment that can cushion communities in this period," said Munthali 

 

Munthali said they have supported all the primary schools in Edingeni educational Zone and a community day secondary school

 

Stella Nyirenda a coordinating primary education advisor for Mzimba south said the support is timely as the government is preparing to reopen schools hence the hygiene and sanitary items will help reduce the risk of both teachers and learners. 

 

"As you know the government is preparing for the reopening of schools so what WACRAD has done is complimentary to such efforts as learners will need masks and teachers will also need masks so this gesture is commendable," said Nyirenda.

 

The organization also extended the support to Edingeni health center. 

 

Speaking in a separate interview Medical assistant for Edingeni health center Samuel Tsuka said the support has come at the right time.

 

"We were meeting a lot of challenges actually we did not have soap which is vital in the prevention of covid19 hence we appreciate the gesture taken by WACRAD," said Tsuka.

 

WACRAD has also been providing nutritious flour to parents whose children were stopped from attending CBCCCs due to the closure of schools for them to maintain their nutritional status while at home.
