FEAM Adds Voice for Malawi's Debt Cancellation
The Feminist Macro-Economic Alliance Malawi (FEAM) has joined calls for the international community to consider cancelling Malawi’s debt saying economic hardships are set to escalate due to the country’s high debt with both the international and local community.
The call was made Wednesday during the launch of the Feminist Macro Economics Survey Report in Lilongwe.
NGO Gender Coordination chairperson Barbara Banda is of the view’s debt cancellation will lead to an improved public service delivery by Government.
“This is to try to bring a conversation amongst us women, the feminist movement and more, on how we can bring solutions to various challenges such as corruption that affect how financial services are provided by Government,” Banda.
Banda has since called upon Government to be more transparent in how finances are managed particularly debts.
On her part minister of Gender Patricia Kaliati has encouraged women in key positions to ensure they perform if the country is to see more women empowered in various platforms.
“Malawi has registered a lot of improvements in issues to do with women empowerment but more can be done. This will enable us see where we are going wrong and work on how we can improve,” Kaliati.
The Feminist Macro Economics Survey Report launched in Lilongwe under the theme Building a strong movement of macro-economics feminists.
