At least eight cases have been recorded so far since the start of the launch of the campaign period by the Malawi Electoral Commission, but the police are yet to make arrests they say.
Karonga Police Station Officer In-charge Assistant Commissioner Sam Nkhwazi challenged political party leaders to consider disciplining their supporters saying any person found breaking the law will be arrested regardless of his/her political affiliation.
Nkhwazi added that Police will tighten security by intensifying patrols during the campaign period so that polls are conducted in a peaceful atmosphere.
During a campaign rally held at Lughali and Ibundya Primary Schools, MCP Secretary General Eisenhower Mkaka implored the security agents to arrest all perpetrators of political violence saying any form of impunity will not be condoned.
The November 10 by-election remains one of the highly contested polls with stiff competition expected to be between Frank Tumpale Mwenifumbo and Leonard Mwalwanda.
