As the world commemorates International Human Rights Day, local players in children affairs are of the view that more efforts need to be employed to ensure children are enjoying their rights.

While pointing out some interventions put in place to ensure children are protected such as ending child marriages, Minister of Gender and Children Affairs Patricia Kaliati feels enforcement of all laws in human rights is key to making Malawi a conducive environment for children.

"We have child protection laws in the country. We need to make sure those laws work. All men abusing children must be arrested. We are making sure that children are protected," said Kaliati.

On his part National Coordinator for NGO-Coalition on Child Rights Henry Machemba says Malawi has failed to protect and respect the rights of children citing various forms of child abuse such as defilement.

The sentiments come as the world commemorates International Human Rights Day on Thursday, 10th December.
