`` We need quality projects in the country. Chief’s should be able to go and monitor these projects  and with this we can be assured of quality”, said Dr. Chilima.

Dr. Chilima, was speaking in Nkhatabay on Thursday, when he toured Nkhatabay Water Project that is expected to supply potable water to 100,000 residents of the district by November, 2022.

Added the Vice President, `` It is my expectation that, by November 2022, residents of Nkhatabay will have clean and potable water”. 

The Vice President, is in North, where is he monitoring progress of some infrastructure developments. In almost all visits Dr. Chilima is insisting on value for money projects.

Contractor of the project, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation has promised to deliver good work.

Deputy General Manager for the Corporation Mr. Jelly Jing, says despite persistent rainfall affecting progress of the construction works, the company is committed to catch up with time.

 ``Our biggest worry is persistent rainfall the district is receiving. But we are hopeful that we will meet the deadline".

Nkhatabay is one of the districts which is prone to water borne diseases as majority of the residents consume water from unprotected sources like Lake Malawi.
