Spokesperson for the council, Patrick Botha has confirmed the development, saying the two parties are meeting to resolve the matter.

`` We have asked our bank to give us overdraft, so that we can pay our employees”. Said Botha.

Sources have confided in us, that revenue base for the district council has for months now, not been tallying with its wage bill.

There are about 49 support staff, at the Nkhatabay District Council. Fifteen of these have been paid their February and March salaries while 34 are yet to access their monthly pay for the same months.

Added Botha, ``we are hoping that by tomorrow, Tuesday, all these concerned employees will be paid their dues”.

The disgruntled officers Monday morning, closed offices of the Human Resource Officer, Director of Finance and of the Chief Accountant at the council.

Police have since been called to provide security at the District Commissioner’s premises.

NKhatabay is one of the district councils in the country with low revenue base. Some claim that this is due to effects of covid-19.
