Management of the Bandawe School for the deaf in Nkhatabay has told Zodiak Online that the financial crisis has hit the institution such that they are struggling to buy foodstuffs for students.

Head Teacher for the School, Stuart Chiona says most parents think Malawi's free primary education policy, covers everything including food.

``Being a boarding school, this attitude towards the policy is putting us in a very awkward and tricky situation as we are now relying on well-wishers to bring us food and other basic needs for the students.

Problems at the facility forced, First Capital Bank to donate assorted foodstuffs that included bags of rice, beans, Maize to mention but a few worth over K1 million.

Bank's Manager for Nkhatabay Branch, Dines Mapondo says the bank understands the economic challenges most sectors including education are going through due to the Covid-19 pandemic, hence the assistance.

Says Mapondo, `` Almost all sectors are struggling economically. But we thought of setting aside some funds to bail out the needy. And it is the feeling of the Bank that this donation will help to reduce some of the problems the school is facing.”

Bandawe School for the deaf in Nkhataby is partly funded by the Synod of Livingstonia and Government.
