Programs Manager for the Women’s Legal Resources Center, Gift Mauluka says the two organizations are concerned with some politicians who just use and abuse the youth during a political campaign period.

``Most politicians do not put much effort into reaching out to the youth in universities, especially after a national election period”, says Malauka.

Democracy Works Foundation Chief of Party, Augustine Magolowondo noted that there are no deliberate efforts that have been put in place by political parties to train upcoming politicians.

Said Magolowondo, ``there is a lot these young people need to know; for example, what does it take to lead a political party youth wing. Because students feel they are not properly connected to the political mainstream. They think they are only relevant when a politician is coming to address a political rally. No political party runs a specific agenda to train young politicians’

A Secretary for AFORD Mzuzu University Youth wing, Doreen Dzoole said as students they are tired of being used by politicians and that such training will help them to know their roles as politicians.

This was observed at an interface meeting between the two institutions and students of Mzuzu University.
