A spot check in some schools within the city of Mzuzu, by Zodiak on Wednesday has revealed that Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education examinations have started on a good note.

According to some supervisors that we spoke with in some centers that we visited, the examinations started on time, with almost all learners available in their respective centers.

The supervisors also said all materials including those for learners with special needs were made available for the candidates.

Civil Society Education Coalition has applauded the Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB) in the way the examinations have commenced this year, with no reports of cheating and leakage so far.

CSEC Executive Director Benedicto Kondowe says this is a good reputation which MANEB must maintain throughout the examination period and the other examinations to come, if the country’s examinations are to remain credible.

“Contrary to what used to be the case a few years ago, we note that as exams have commenced today, there are no cases emerging. As you may recall, before exams commenced there could be reports in the media, saying this paper is on the market. That so far hasn’t happened,” said Kondowe.

Further, Kondowe also applauded the e-payment system which MANEB is piloting in some areas to pay its examination administration staffs.
