MDF, Police Arrest Fraud Suspect
The Malawi Defence Force (MDF) and Police have jointly arrested a Machinga man on allegations that he is in a syndicate of promising young people employed in the military.
Mzuzu Police Spokesperson Sub Inspector Paul Tembo has told us that Headson Kenan Billiati was arrested on Tuesday in the northern region city where investigations to trace his co-accused have been launched.
``We are suspecting that the suspected is not alone,’’ said Tembo.
For quite some time now, there have been announcements on social media calling for young people to register and get enrolled for military training in some MDF formations in the country, reports which the army has been refuting.
Following these reports, military intelligence and police conducted a joint operation that led to the arrest of Kenan Billiati in Mzuzu who is suspected to be behind the force pronouncements.
Noted Sub Inspector Paul Tembo: “The suspect who has been collecting money from people in exchange for recruitment in the military has been arrested at the Mzuzu Shopping Mall and was found with MK350, 462.78 in his mobile money wallet.”
