Chairperson of the grouping, Gomegzani Nkhoma said at a press conference yesterday in the northern region city that they will not allow intruders to distrust businesses in the city clearing the point that these are not politically connected protests.

``We are aware that police officers will join us this morning to provide security, but we also have our stewards who are ready to provide manpower suppose some people want to cause trouble during the peaceful demonstration,” said Nkhoma.

The organisers told journalists that the protests are against favoritism in awarding of government business contracts, growing reports of nepotism, including social-economic hardships locals are going through, and the high unemployment rate amongst the young people, to mention but a few concerns.

Today’s protests that are dubbed presidential immunity must fall, will be amongst the protests lined up if the government does not find solutions to the concerns.

Said Nkhoma: “We will not stop from today. We will keep pushing showing our anger because as Malawians who voted for change we are aggrieved.”

Mzuzu Police Station Public Relations Officer, inspector Paul Tembo says the law enforcers are also ready to provide security to ensure order during and after the demonstrations.

``We are ready for these demonstrations. But, our role is to provide security to people and property. So, if there will be some people who will act against the law we will deal with them, warned Inspector Tembo.

Mzuzu is one of the fragile cities during protests, and tension mostly rises before, during, and after the demonstrations as some people target business properties.
