Ownership Of Projects By Community Members To Help Make Impact
Director of Operations for World Vision Charles Chimombo says ownership of the said projects by people in communities, is one way of ensuring that development projects have a long-lasting impact in communities.
World VisionMalawi says while the country has made progress in eradicating poverty and ensuring food sufficiency there is a need to introduce mega projects that will ensure that money used in projects is making an impact.
Director of Operations for World Vision Charles Chimombo says the country has a long way to go in eradicating poverty as seen by the Malawi Vulnerability Assessment Committee report that comes out annually.
Chimombo says there is since need to introduce mega projects that will be duly monitored so as to keep track of projects being implemented and also push towards ownership of projects in the long run.
Said Chimombo “We also want communities to appreciate the work organizations are supporting them with. We also need to ensure that programs are more sustainable so we don’t do the same things time and again. We need to see that we are moving forward.”
Chimombo was speaking at a stakeholder meeting in Mzuzu Wednesday.
Director of Planning and Development for Dowa district Council Loveness Silungwe says such meetings are important as they help councils and stakeholders map the way forward on projects meant to help with development.
“This meeting is very important because as partners in development we need to meet and update each other on what is happening in the district and how they are assisting people they are serving,” said Silungwe.
Another, who is also district Commissioner for Mbelwa Rodney Simwaka, says it is also important for councils to monitor various projects being conducted by district councils as a way of promoting transparency and accountability in the long run.
