No Resources for Lura Technical College in Rumphi- Govt

The ministry of labour says the abandoned Lura Technical College in Rumphi requires more resources to be completed.

Speaking after inspecting the college on Tuesday the minister responsible Agnes Nyalonje says there is need to construct boarding facilities for students, bring piped water, electricity and build staff houses.

The minister did not disclose timeline of the project because resources are not readily available for the completion of the remaining facilities.

"I cannot give the timeline of the project due to unavailability of resources," said minister Nyalonje.

Nyalonje has asked Rumphi district council to build some structures using the Governance to Enable Service Delivery funds.

Commenting on the matter chairperson for Rumphi district council Harry Mnyenyembe said the project is failing to complete timely because it is centralized.

Mnyenyembe said currently the council is failing to supervise the project because everything is done at central level.

It is reported that the contractor of the project left the site 2 years ago because government was not honoring their agreement.

The 1 billion kwacha project started in 2018 and once completed it will accommodate 200 students.
