Ex-Cop Sent to Jail for Possessing Indian Hemp
State prosecutor, Senior Superintendent Moja Phiri, told thefirst grade magistrate court in Salima that Chipeta was once an administration officer at Police Training School in Limbe, Blantyre. He was arrested on 20th May 2018 as he came from Dwangwa in Nkhotakota in a vehicle.
Police found 116.4 kilograms of Indian hemp in his car and he was en route to Blantyre.
State pleaded with the court to pass stiff punishment considering Chipeta was ever a law enforcer and was not expected to be in the fore front breaking the law.
The accused, through his lawyer Clement Mwala, however pleaded for leniency on grounds that he has a responsibility over his family.
He was convicted on 30th December 2019.
