The new-year fever could fast be fading away, but parliamentarian for Kasungu West, Jailosi Bonongwe, still has surprises for his constituents, especially pregnant women.

Bonongwe has been to Kamboni Health Centre in his constituency visiting expectant mothers with ‘new year’ gifts.

“I know most of them entered the new year at this facility and I thought cheering them would encourage them to embrace a culture of giving birth at a health facility,” he told Zodiak Online.

He added: “Such women need an encouragement as they wait to give life to the earth considering that the ministry of Health promotes women to deliver in health facilities”.

One of the expectant women, Mary Phiri, was thankful for the gesture saying it had come at a time she needed it most.

Phiri said some women lack essential items such as wrappers while in the maternity as such, the donation would help them cover-up such gaps.

Among the donated items was rice parks, soap tablets and wrappers.

The parliamentarian has now pledged to help construction of a staff house at the facility following the request from the Heath Advisory Committee.

However the women lamented poor road network which they say but them from essential social services.

“I am doing what I can to rehabilitate the road where I can with the constituency Development Fund but the funds are not enough we need government to consider upgrading this road for these tax payers to benefit also,” Bonongwe said.
