As the country await Constitutional Court Verdict, The vocal Human Rights Defenders Coalition has joined several stakeholders asking parties to the electoral case to respect the outcome and maintain peace thereafter.

Speaking to journalists in Lilongwe Saturday morning, HRDC member, Luke Tembo urged Malawians to uphold the rule of law upon court’s determination.

Tembo further implored stakeholders in the case to use proper channels if not satisfied with the court outcome.

“We as HRDC join the rest of the stakeholders that have been calling for peace before, within and after presidential election case verdict. We have respect from our judicial system and we hope that our respected judges will deliver a just verdict on this watershed case” said Tembo.

Appellants Dr Saulos Chilima of UTM and Dr Lazarus Chakwera of Malawi Congress Party MCP have already urged peace among their supporters so too has incumbent President Peter Mutharika of Democratic Progressive Party, the first respondent in the electoral case.

HRDC has been organizing demonstrations against Malawi Electoral Commission chairperson Justice Jane Ansah, whose commission is the second respondent, accusing her of mismanaging the elections.
