Chief Secretary to Government, Lloyd Muhara, has issued a statement to the effect that the remains of Alefa Julius Chimulirenji, will be flown in through Kamuzu International Airport Tuesday 11th February, 2020.
“The Office of the President and Cabinet regrets to announce the death of Mrs. Alefa Julius Chimulirenji-mother to Honourable Everton Chimulirenji,” reads the statement with conspicuous care to address Chimulirenji appropriately.
The death of his mother comes as a double blow in just under a week after Chimulirenji was dethroned as vice president.
Until February 3rd, Chimulirenji was recognized as Vice President of Malawi when the Constitutional Court ordered the status of the presidency to before May 21, 2019.
For the past six days, therefore, Malawi’s vice president is Dr. Saulos Chilima.
