The spread of Corona Virus in neighboring countries has prompted officials in the country's tobacco sector to start putting in place preventing measures to avoid having challenges in this year's tobacco selling season.

AHL Acting Group Administration Executive Lameck Gomani, says considering that people from different parts of the country as well as some from abroad meet in Action Floors, there is need to implement such measures.

He was speaking during a sensitization meeting for AHL staff and workers from other companies in the tobacco sector, on prevention of the virus.

"Where ever there are sanitary facilities we are going to put personnel who will be advising people to wash hands before entering into offices."

"There are clinicians and Human Resource Managers who will be doing this in our facilities throughout the country," he said.

Meanwhile AHL Group Communications Manager Theresa Ndanga says the company is ready to start receiving tobacco for the 2020 selling season in all it's action floors.

"AHL Group which operates all the tobacco floors in the country is taking various measures to prepare for the 2020 Tobacco Marketing Season."

"As you are aware this season comes at a time countries globally are affected by Corona Virus, so we are arranging that we should also prepare in that area. This is where a lot of stakeholders as well as growers come together," said Ndanga.

According to Ndanga the company has also set a high level task force to deal with issues of Corona Virus.

Health personnel working in AHL Clinics across the country attended the Corona Virus sensitization meeting facilitated by medical officers from Lilongwe District Health office .
