Foot and Mouth Disease Resurfaces in Ntcheu

There is a scare of Foot and Mouth disease outbreak in Ntcheu, close to two years after the last attack in the district.

Authorities say they have recorded cases in seven out of 128 cattle in kraals under Sharpevale Extension Planning Area in the district.

Ntcheu District Council Spokesperson, Hastings Mlambuzi, could not provide details when contacted.

Reports say 7 out of 128 cattle under Sharpevale Extension Planning Area in the district have tested positive.

Over the years, foot and mouth disease ravaged parts of the South and Northern areas.

In Mzimba, last year alone about 20, 000 cattle were affected by the disease.

Foot and mouth disease is an acute infectious disease caused by a virus and attack livestock’s such as cattle, goats, sheep and pigs among others.
