Medi told Zodiak Online that while the department has stepped up its efforts in tightening security in all borders, the citizenry must also take a responsibility in ensuring they are isolating themselves from the crowds as a preventive measure.
"Although we are yet to register any case in relation to the global pandemic Covid-19, lives of the citizenry is already under threat," he said, adding that Malawians need to take precautionary measures on the same.
He said currently, the department has suspended issuance of border pass documents and visa in the wake of the global pandemic.
Medi was speaking in Ntcheu Thursday afternoon after visiting Biriwiri Border Post as part of his familiarization tour on the pandemic preparedness in border post.
So far, the Immigration Chief has already visited Mwanza, Muloza in Mulanje and Chileka Airport in Blantyte with the awareness messages on the pandemic.
