This follows the arrest of two men on Friday by Ntcheu Police suspected of defiling minors in separate incidents.
The arrest also comes barely days a Senior Resident Magistrate Court there, sentenced a 40 year old man to 18 years imprisonment with hard labor for being found guilty of defiling his 10 year old daughter and infected her with HIV.
Youth Net and Counselling (Yoneco) Program Support Manager, Sewenthe Chipofya-Mahwayo told Zodiak Online that raising awareness to communities on these issues is now paramount while appealing to courts to hand stiffer punishments to culprits.
"Intensification of awareness to communities is a solution to the vice.We need to get to the bottom of the issue and address it completely as rights of our children are under threat," said Chipofya-Mahwayo.
She also suggested handing of stiffer punishments by the court to offenders could also help in addressing the challenge.
According to Ntcheu Police Station Spokesperson, Hastings Chigalu, the first suspect George Gwalidi, is suspected of defiling his 16 year old daughter.
Chigalu says the incident happened within the week at Gumbu village, Traditional Authority Kwataine in the district with the arrest made on Friday after a man hunt.
"While the second suspect, Chikondi Wede allegedly defiled a standard two girl aged 6, at Ndagoma village in the same district before arrest was made by police," he said.
As it stands now, records at police indicate 18 defilement cases have now been reported between January to March this year alone in the district.
Among them, sixteen cases were recorded in a space of two months only.
