MEC has put out an electoral calendar that schedules polling day on July 2.

Voter registration starts this Saturday.

Opposition political parties that successfully contested outcome of the May 2019 polls say they will not boycott any process in the fresh presidential poll.

The two political parties Malawi Congress Party MCP and their alliance partner UTM have told Zodiak Online that there are deliberate moves by the ruling party to frustrate the opposition from taking part in the poll but they will not fall to it.

The two parties however hope that that the current commission will not manage the polls to the end.

MCP Publicity Secretary Reverend Maurice Munthali said they have already engaged their followers to register in large numbers and vote in the end.

“We still maintain our stand that we want the current MEC Commissioners out but we will not at any point shun the electoral process and we urge our supporters in locations were the first phase will commence to go and register” said Munthali.

From UTM, the party's Spokesperson, Dr Joseph Chidanti Malunga says the party has made strides in engaging supporters to register come April 4.

“There are efforts that have been set out to frustrate us but we will not bow down to them. We will participate in every electoral process ahead of the fresh poll” said Malunga.

On his part, Democratic Progressive Party DPP Spokesperson, Nicholas Dausi said efforts to mobilize their followers to register have been dealt a heavy blow with Corona Virus threat.

“Taking messages of the upcoming registration to our supporters is proving to be a challenge with this Corona virus threat but all in all we are ready for the poll” said Dausi.

MEC has set Fresh Presidential Poll on July 2 contradicting parliament which set the date on May 19. Bills that contain that date have not been approved by President Peter Mutharika.
