Poverty Affecting COVID-19 Prevention in Ntchisi - Chiefs

Traditional leaders in Ntchisi district say adherence to preventive measures in remotest villages in Ntchisi is proving to be hard considering that access to clean water is still a big problem.

The chiefs say in some instances a majority of people are failing to afford essential things such as soap which is making it hard for them to adhere to the measures despite sensitization messages being disseminated.

Senior Chief Kasakula, Nthondo and traditional authority Kalumo of Ntchisi district have appealed to development partners and the government to consider these facts saying poverty has become a barrier for prevention of the Coronavirus among people in their areas.

District council committees on health have assured the chiefs that the matter will be looked into considering that all communities need to be equipped with full preventive measures.

Meanwhile, Ntchisi district council has received a sum of K30 Million from government and some development partners to help in the fight against the deadly pandemic in the district which has so far killed one person in the country as 8 cases have been registered.
