Ballots for the fresh presidential election on Tuesday will be flown in from Dubai Friday June 19 as scheduled, according to Malawi Electoral Commission Chairman, Dr. Chifundo Kachale.

Dr. Kachale said this Thursday in Lilongwe at the last National Elections Consultative Forum-NECOF-meeting.

This, Kachale said, follows completion of printing works by Al Ghurair Printing and Publishing Company which was contracted by MEC in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

In a related development Dr. Kachale says apart from a K9bn Kwacha deficit on the budget, treasury is also yet to release another K8.9bn expected as of yesterday for operations.

Our sources have informed that by mid-night last night, the consignment of the ballots has been moved from the printing company to a freight company in Dubai ready for dispatch.

The aircraft ferrying the ballots is expected to touch down at Kamuzu International Airport on Friday at a quarter to eleven in the morning from where MEC District Election Officers from district councils will be handed parcels for districts and provided security escort to their respective districts.

MEC Chairman, Dr. Kachale has, however, decried defiance by political parties to comply with set Covid 19 preventive measures saying this is exposing their followers to contracting the virus.
