Only days after police arrested 13 police officers suspected to have had a hand in the brutal killing of suspect Buleya Lule in police custody in 2019, the wife of Lule, Charity says she hopes justice will prevail in the case against his alleged assailants.

Lule had been arrested and was awaiting trial for the abduction and killing in cold blood of a 14-year-old boy with albinism Goodson Fanizo in Dedza last year.

Charity said this today when civil society organizations under the umbrella body Human Rights Defenders Coalition HRDC visited the family at Mitundu on the outskirts of Lilongwe city.

The wife further hopes she will access compensation for the loss as the death left her with seven children to look after as a single parent with no permanent income.

“Since my husband died last year, life has been hard. We have time without number spent on an empty stomach because our breadwinner is gone. It is my hope that the new administration will consider speeding the process for me to receive my compensation” said Charity.

Micheal Kayitasa of Centre for Human Rights and Rehabilitation CHRR has called authorities to ensure that justice is delivered over those arrested.

"We have seen people being arrested but in the end justice not being delivered. We the new administration will see to it that justice is delivered on those arrested in connection to Buleya Lule’s death” said Kaiyasa

Buleya Lule died while in hands of police in February 2019.

Thirteen police officers including, Central Region Commissioner of Police Evalista Chisale, were arrested and are on remand on the murder case that has been committed to the High Court.
