Ex-President Aide Chisale Rearrested
It never rains but pours for Norman Chisale, former President Peter Mutharika’s aide, who was re-arrested barely an hour after being granted bail by a Magistrate Court in Lilongwe on alleged fraud and money laundering.
His new charge is attempted murder sprouting from an incident in which the security aide to former President Peter Mutharika allegedly shot and injured a woman in Blantyre.
His lawyer Chancy Gondwe has accused the Chakwera administration of “resurrecting” a dead case.
He claims that the woman, orally withdrew the charge but police forced her to bring it back.
“It is unfortunate that the state is trying to resurrect a case which was withdrawn by the victim. The woman was here in court, she was ready to tell the court that she has dropped the charge.” Said Gondwe.
He also refuted the attempted murder charge leveled against his client saying it was an accidental shooting.
“There was an attack on the accused person (Chisale) in defense he fired a shot but accidentally the bullet landed on the woman’s knee.”
“…besides my client is also providing every financial help to the woman in relation to the injury.”
Arriving at the court premises earlier, Chisale appeared from a police vehicle wearing a smile, handcuffed with a Bible in his hands.
He left with the court premises with a gloomy face under heavy police escort.
In the bail ruling on his alleged fraud and money laundering cases, Chief Resident Magistrate Violet Chipawo ordered Chisale to pay K10 million cash bail bond and provide sureties worth K50 million each non-cash.
He was also ordered to surrender his travel documents and that he should be appearing to Police Headquarters in area 30 on Tuesday every fortnight.
