Court Adjourns Kalirani & Chingwalungwalu Case to Nov 2

A Magistrate Court in Lilongwe has adjourned to November 2, 2020 hearing of a case in which former acting director of National Intelligence Service Kenam Kalirani and former head of ICT at State Residences Chance Chingwalungwalu are accused of stealing government intelligence computers.

The two appeared before court yesterday to be formally charged but the state indicated that it was not ready to prosecute the matter and asked for at least 30 days which the court accepted.

Former secret service Acting Director, Dr. Kenam Kalilani and former Chief Information and Communications Officer for State Residences, Chance Chingwalungwalu, appeared before court today Monday, to be formally charged.

They are being accused of stealing government computers.

The state however indicated that it was not ready asking for at least 30 days as investigations are still underway.

Presiding Magistrate, Principal Resident Magistrate Viva Nyimba has since adjourned the matter to November 2.

Before adjournment, lawyer for the accused asked the court to discharge the case and that the property ceased from the accused be returned.

The court however declined the two requests.

Kalirani and Chingwalungwalu were arrested in July this year and they are yet to take plea.
