Police says the vehicle belonging to Smith Bus, registration number MH 432 was traveling from Blantyre to Mzuzu with about 32 passengers on board.

District Police Spokesperson, Hastings Chigalu told Zodiak Online that the accident occurred when the driver of the vehicle now deceased attempted to overtake another vehicle and in the process lost control of the vehicle which fell off to the offside gully.

"Due to the impact, one person, a driver of the bus died on the spot while four people sustained serious injuries while the rest sustained minor injuries," he said.

According to Chigalu, on the four seriously injured, three are admitted at Ntcheu District Hospital while one has been referred to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital.
