President Chakwera for Depoliticization of MEDF Loans

President Chakwera for Depoliticization of MEDF Loans

Among the issues tackled in the first-ever Weekly Brief hosted by the Presidential Media Directorate that lasted for about an hour was the talk of the moment, Malawi Enterprise Development Fund, MEDF.

Through the Brief, Executive Assistant to the President and Director of Communications, Sean Kampondeni stated that the stand of President Chakwera remains that access to the loan which is vital should not be politicized.

Kampondeni however could not say if president Chakwera has condemned comments by the second Vice President of MCP Harry Mkandawire that MCP Patriots be the first beneficiaries of MEDF loans.

"The president still maintains that in access to services like MEDF, political interference and this shall remain the stand of the Malawi leader," said Kampondeni

Besides MEDF, the presidential media directorate outlined a series of engagements President Chakwera has conducted that includes meeting leadership of the Catholic church through the Episcopal Conference of Malawi and Millennium Challenge Cooperation on the upcoming compact.

Meanwhile, Chancellor College Political Expert Professor Mustapha Hussein says Chakwera should tread carefully with comments of his party followers as they might lead to dividing Malawians.

"Such sentiments are likely to cause divisions in this country because some quarters might feel sidelined in accessing services like loans. The president should be careful with those sentiments" said Prof Hussein.

In the run-up to June 23 Fresh Presidential Elections, Tonse Alliance campaigned towards unity and depoliticizing national development projects by government.
