Salima District Hospital in Dilapidated state, 31 Years No Rehabilitation

Salima District Hospital has appealed for support from well-wishers to help with the maintenance of the district referral facility built in 1989 and now in a dilapidated state.

The hospital's matron Yanjanani Mawondo told us that much as they are doing their part but the council is resource-constrained hence need for external support saying a lot needs to be done.

"If you can walk around you will see that indeed the hospital is in a bad state and there is a need for maintenance, we ask well-wishers to come and see what they can help with." Said Mawindo.

The district hospital was constructed in 1989 and after 21 years since its construction, they say it has not seen any renovation that it is now in a bad state.

Mawindo was speaking when Rainbow paints donated paint to the hospital worth about 1.5 million kwacha.

According to the company's technical manager Geoffrey Zuliyani the donation is part of their 30th-anniversary celebration.

"We came here to access what we can help with hence this donation as we celebrate without customers 30th anniversary." He said.

Other stakeholders have helped in the rehabilitation and expansion of the maternity wing at the hospital which was also in a dilapidated state and small.
