Ombudsman Probe Magalasi's MERA Recruitment 

The Office of Ombudsman has launched investigations on the unprocedural recruitment of Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority, MERA Chief Executive Officer Collins Magalasi.

Ombudsman Spokesperson Arthur Sembe has told Zodiak online that there are also several allegations which Magalasi is supposed to respond to by 29 October 2020.

Magalasi and two others are in courts answering charges bordering on theft and defrauding MERA.

Former Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority, Chief Executive Officer Mr. Collins Magalasi is being investigated on 10 allegations.

They include how he was hired as Chief Executive Officer for MERA, how his office recruited some Directors, Nepotism, abuse of benefits by his personal assistant among others.

The letter issued on 21 October 2020 says, for example, Magalasi was recruited in 2017, without the job being advertised contrary to the Energy Regulation Act.

Ombudsman Martha Chizuma has in a notice of investigation asked Magalasi to furnish her office with a comprehensive response on each allegation.
