CSOs Decry "Persecution" of Bushiri in SA, Asks Gvt to Intervene

Some concerned citizens under the banner "Justice for Bushiri" Movement are asking government to intervene in bringing back home Prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his wife Mary, who are in police custody in South Africa on charges of fraud and money laundering.

Leader of the grouping Billy Banda told journalists in Lilongwe on Wednesday that there is a need for speedy trial on the matter further claiming that Bushiri deserves diplomatic treatment hence the need for intervention.

Officials from the ministry of foreign affairs were not available to comment on the matter.

Addressing Journalists in Lilongwe on Wednesday, the grouping under the banner "Justice for Bushiri" movement said government should make necessary arrangements with the South African government to bringing Prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his spouse Mary back home.

The South African based prophet and business mogul was arrested in fraud and money laundering allegations in South Africa.

Leader of the grouping Billy Banda who is also a human rights activist said action by the South African government is an infringement on his human rights.

Ministry of foreign affairs officials were not available to comment on the plea.

Apart from fraud allegations, the South African department of home affairs has also given the Bushiris a month to provide documents on how they obtained their permanent resident permits.
