"Uphold Constitution," Chakwera Implores Newly Sworn in Judges

President Lazarus Chakwera has implored the newly sworn-in Justices of Appeal and Judges of the High Court to uphold the constitution when executing their duties.

President Chakwera said this at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe on Thursday at the swearing-in ceremony of the four Justices of Appeal and 12 Judges of the High Court where he also advised them to not be intimidated and succumb to corruption.

He added that “to render the service of justice it is critically important to see it as their task to repair the broken legs of the sacred table of justice.”

“The second leg that the table stands on is peace, our courts exist as an avenue for the peaceful resolution of disputes so at to prevent us from imploring violent means towards that end, as such those who sit on that bench must be people who not only love public peace but hate all open and secret enemies of that peace,” said Chakwera.

Chief Justice Andrew Nyirenda says the new appointments will facilitate speedy delivery of justice to Malawians and advised the judges to commit themselves to their work.

The new Justices of Appeal to the supreme court include Justice Healey Potani, Ivy Kamanga, John Katsala,  and Charles Mkandawire, and the judges to the high court include Her honour Agnes Patemba, His honour Justus Kishindo, Vikochi Chima, and Simeon Mdeza to mention a few.
